Turning Waste into Intelligence
The Biofuel Farm is not just a waste-to-energy plant; it is a living grid powered by artificial intelligence. The facility will capture 99% of landfill gas and convert it into clean electricity with 46% efficiency—far surpassing traditional methods. Uniquely, the plant will dedicate a portion of its baseload power to behind-the-meter AI data centers located on-site.
This “direct-feed” approach eliminates transmission losses and provides AI companies with 100% carbon-neutral compute power, solving the “green AI” dilemma while stabilizing the regional grid.
Key Features of the Biofuel Farm PrototypeCarbon Negative:
Captures and converts landfill methane and CO2 into liquid fuels, removing more carbon from the atmosphere than it emits.
- AI-Optimized: Utilizes NSIP’s proprietary Neural Power System to dynamically balance energy production, grid demand, and AI compute loads in real-time.
- Zero Odor, Zero Fugitive Emissions: Features a 5-acre negative-pressure tipping barn and a 500-acre airtight LLDPE cap, proven to contain 100% of odors and 99% of gas.
- National Security Resilience: Built to USACE standards as an island-capable microgrid, ensuring energy independence for local infrastructure and nearby military installations.
A Federal-Private Partnership Model
The project exemplifies a new era of public-private collaboration. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will lead construction, leveraging fast-track authority to reduce timelines. The DOE and EPA will provide funding for technology integration and climate pollution reduction. Orange County Waste & Recycling (OCWR) will operate the facility, bearing no capital cost risk.
NSIP serves as the system architect and integrator, leveraging Yolo County validated data that proves the technology’s viability, including 5x methane acceleration and 46% generation efficiency.
Quotes
“The Biofuel Farm is more than a power plant; it is a blueprint for the future of sustainable infrastructure. By pairing waste management with AI energy demands, we are turning a liability into a national asset.” —
“This prototype demonstrates how federal investment can accelerate clean energy innovation while creating resilient, high-tech jobs. It sets a new standard for how we manage waste and power our communities.”
Next Steps
The Biofuel Farm is currently in the Phase I: Design & Permitting stage. With DOE grant approval, construction is slated to begin in early 2027, with full operations expected by 2029. NSIP plans to publish a “Biofuel Farm Playbook” to replicate this model at landfills and military bases across the United States.
